ABTI BP6 and Maxtor drive problems
And about the software drivers do I need to worry about installing them since there are IDE opticals already in use. Could it be that they put the hard drive as a scsi because the IDE was used up for the opticals? Could there not be a secondary IDE connector on the motherboard? Or are scsi faster drives and that is

Possible to connect 5 IDE devices to A7V8X with RAID?
Connect your HD to your regular IDE controller (UDMA/33) when you run this, and then tell it to use UDMA Mode 4. Then power down and reconnect to your ATA66 Config: 2x Celeron 533 - 196Mb PC133 RAM Maxtor 52049U4 20Gb 7200rpm HDD on ATA66 - prim-master Seagate ST313021A 13Gb on ATA66 - prim-slave Creative

hard drive gone bang (long post)
Suspect a hard drive to die in the near future.... I had this issue on a RAID 0 setup (2 x Seagate Barracuda 40Gb drives). The drives were fairly new (couple of months old). Someone suggested reconnecting the drives to a normal IDE connector, and running Seagate's Seatools drive diagnostic utility on each drive

CD not detected w Boot Floppy P4P800
The problems I experienced seemed to all occur after installing a second WD drive. Earlier installations involved a WD and a Seagate. The other has 2 WD hds, a 40gb and an 80 gb. If I enable both in the Bios, the disk drives are reported as missing entirely and the Primary IDE controler shows an error.

I'm not sure what "bad things" you've heard but all hard drive MFG's will have batches of bad drives occasionally. Especially the cheap IDE drives. You won't have any problems with installing to large drives. Just make sure to get a good SCSI controller. I like Adaptec, others don't. I'm with you on this one.

Upgrades from Hell, the nightmare continues.
Seagate drives communicate on the IDE interface faster than the mainboard can keep up and corruption occurs. I discovered this by calling Seagate. at the full ultra DMA speed on the new Blue and White G3's. Disconnecting Backup HD makes computer to freeze.
It only occurs if I do a full NTFS format of the 40gb hard drive. What could be causing this? The computer appears to be otherwise error free. All of the remaining components in the system have been switched at least once to make sure that it wasn'ta faulty motherboard, or a damaged ide cable and so on.

This portable `suitcaseŽ PC has a 40GB drive. Even if you don't do #2, defragmenting the hard drive is essential. This is especially true if (a) you have done a major I didn't see much fragmentation from installing FSX or do I get much from spending a couple of hours running FSX. Something a bit strange though.

I recently flashed it up a 7N BIOS, whence it would no longer detect my 2nd 40GB IBM 60GXP, so I flashed it up again to a A9 BIOS - still to no avail. I have a Chaintech PCI raid card attached with a HP370 controller. If I hook no.2 HDD to the primary IDE, it's detected no problem.
